Throughout the
ages, animal symbolism has held significant meaning for many. From
Shamanic beliefs to Jungian philosophy, animals are widely
recognized as powerful messengers who can help us by guiding our
actions.
Power animals
are not the same as totem animals. A totem animal is an animal that
you are born with, one whose energies will stay with you for life,
and you will feel a special bond with that animal.
A power animal
is one that comes to you in order to teach you and guide you through
certain life lessons. Most of us have at least a few power animals.
They may come to us in waking life or in dreams. The ones that we
encounter in waking life are often overlooked. Yet the gifts they
bring us can be life-changing if we are open to receiving them.
We are all
connected on this earth and the animals are a part of us. Each of us
resonates with certain animals depending on what our individual
needs are. These animals reflect the qualities and abilities that we
are developing on a soul level.
Below are some
animals you might encounter on an everyday basis and some of their
messages:
Butterfly -
step out of your comfort zone, embrace change, trust yourself, use
your courage, spread your wings, move ahead, seek freedom
Deer - be
tender and gentle, respect your sensitivities, show love and
compassion, find support from others, listen, trust your
perceptions, be gracious
Fox - be aware
of your environment, use all of your senses, think things through,
use discretion, don't draw attention to yourself, keep your wits
about you, act quickly
Frog - seek
cleansing, be flexible, allow yourself to heal, grow, seek peace,
acknowledge your bonds, let rebirth take place, sing your song
Mouse - pay
attention to details, keep quiet, appreciate the little things, get
organized, stay in the background, look at the larger picture, keep
quiet
Rabbit -
humble yourself, face and embrace your fears, pay attention, use
your creativity, protect your health, reevaluate your circumstances,
watch for hidden messages
Raccoon -
don't reveal too much of yourself, open the doors that are before
you, play the roles you need to play, shield yourself, stay on
guard, cultivate confidence, ask questions
Snake - give
yourself over to transformation, honor your sexuality, let the old
die so that the new may be reborn, let go of limitations, be
spontaneous, develop your psychic talents
Spider - weave
your life the way you want it, look at the larger picture,
integrate, seek connections, take responsibility for your actions,
accept your power to manifest your future
Squirrel -
gather your resources, plan ahead, prepare for the future, focus on
solutions, be generous, share your wealth
As with any
form of symbolism, some things may hold different meanings for you
than the meanings that are traditionally held. The personal meaning
you experience is what matters most.
When you honor
your power animals by living in conscious awareness of your
connection to them, you will discover that all of creation is an
oracle.
